Description
The Pacific Coast Khalsa Diwan Society (PCKDS) came about in 1907 and served to fill in the social citizenship role that was also denied to Punjabi immigrants in California. The PCKDS helped furnish housing, medical care, food, and social activities for the Punjabi sojourners. The PCKDS secured land, the only time Punjabis were able to do so as a group without use of under-the-table means, and built a guruduwara in Stockton, California that was completed in 1912. The PCKDS’s main goals were to promote the “education and welfare of the immigrants Indians” and it supported South Asians of any religion and regional origin, thus creating a unique community in California that transcended religious fissures among Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims.
It was able to fuse together historically disparate groups because the institutional social support the PCKDS offered reflected the medley of needs it served. Cultural and social activities catered to all religions, and Sikhs Hindus and Muslims celebrated Gurpurab, Navratri, and Ramadan all together.
A custom coin is a traditional yet unique gift to exhibit one's membership, award excellence, or commemorate a once in a lifetime event. Have your employees or club members take home a piece of the community they belong to by embossing a symbol or having your organizational values written on your custom coins.
Challenge Coins
Challenge coins have a rich history filled with bravery, perseverance, and unity. These characteristics have come to define the indomitable spirit of exceptional individuals. That is no doubt why so many military units, clubs, teams, businesses and organizations uphold the tradition of carrying Military Challenge Coins year after year.
A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization's insignia or emblem and carried by the organization's members. Traditionally, they might be given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. They are also collected by service members and law enforcement personnel. Historically, challenge coins were presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They could also be exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.
Geocoins
A geocoin is a metal token minted in similar fashion to a medallion, token coin, military challenge coin or wooden nickel, for use in geocaching, specifically as form of a calling card. The first geocoins were developed by Jon Stanley as a signature item to be placed in caches.
