Gypjak is a former village that was annexed into the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat in 2013. It is now a neighborhood in Bagtyýarlyk Borough of Ashgabat.

"The Spiritual Mosque of Turkmanbashi" is a recent construction in much the same vein as other monuments and buildings in Ashgabat, although this is outside the city in the small village where the first President of the Republic was born. White marble, golden dome, four minarets 91 metres high (referencing the year of Independence 1991), opulent interior which can hold 10,000 worshippers comfortably and could squeeze in twice that number. No one else present when we visited - does it ever cater for worship with its out of town location in a secular Islamic state?

Situated next door is the Mausoleum to Turkmenistan's first President, where he is buried alongside memorial slabs to his father (died in the Great Patriotic War), his mother and an older and a younger brother (who all died in the 1948 Earthquake). Again opulent white marble and stunning interior.
